Maren Conrad studied German Literature and Media, Scandinavian Culture and Psychology from 2004 to 2008 at Kiel University. During her academic studies she also worked as secretary of the editorial office of the EJSS - European Journal of Scandinavian Studies. In July 2008 she received an M.A. for her thesis on narrative and semiotic strategies in the presentation of audiovisual advertising.Until September 2011 she worked as a lecturer at the Institute for German Literature and Media at Kiel University and graduated with a PhD with a thesis on the Rise of the Fantastic in German Ballads 1770-1830. The title of her dissertation is "Aufbrüche der Ordnung - Anfänge der Phantastik. Systemerweiterungen und Gattungsexperimente in der deutschen Kunstballade".The thesis was funded by a graduate research scholarship of the state of Schleswig-Holstein.
My main research interests lie in the area of semiotic analysis of literature and media (film and advertisement), Scandinavian and German literature and literary theory.
