Dr Theresa Reidy is a political scientist based at University College Cork, where she teaches Irish politics and public finance. Theresa's research interests lie in the areas of electoral behaviour and political institutions. She has been involved in a number of research projects on elections and referendums and she has received research funding from the Irish Research Council, the Department of Education, Irish Aid, the National Academy for the Integration of Research and Teaching and Learning (NAIRTL) and the European Commission. 

Theresa is co-editor of the International Political Science Review and was co-editor of Irish Political Studies from 2012-2016. In Autumn 2014, Theresa held the position of Peter O'Brien Visiting Scholar at the School of Canadian Irish Studies in Concordia University, Montreal, Canada and she was a visiting research fellow at Universitat Konstanz in Spring 2013.

Theresa is very involved in the political studies community. She is a member of the executive committee of the International Political Science Association and was Vice President of the Political Studies Association of Ireland (PSAI) from 2012-2016 and honorary secretary from 2006-2011. She has represented political science on the social science committee of the Royal Irish Academy since 2007. 

Theresa has convened many conferences in UCC including the annual conference of the PSAI in 2006 and 2015, and many other events on political reform, local elections and democracy and governance in the developing world. She has given expert evidence to parliamentary committees, the Constitutional Convention and is a regular contributor to national and international radio, television and the print media.

Research Interests

Theresa Reidy's research interests are in the areas of electoral politics and public finance. Her current projects include research on the June 2015 marriage referendum in Ireland with Jos Elkink (UCD), David Farrell (UCD) and Jane Suiter (DCU) and a study on electoral management practices in established democracies with Fiona Buckley (UCC) and David Farrell (UCD). As part of the electoral management project, the team have also joined up with the Electoral Integrity Project to carry out an audit of electoral management practices at the 2011 general election and a second wave is planned at the 2016 election.

Theresa is co-editor of the International Political Science Review and a co-convenor of the Voters, Parties and Elections Specialist Group of the PSAI.
