Deirdre Bennett is Head, Medical Education Unit and Senior Lecturer in Medical Education at the School of Medicine, UCC. She graduated from UCC in 1992 and trained in Internal Medicine and General Practice, in both the UK and Ireland. She undertook a Masters in Public Health in UCD (1998) and later a Masters in Teaching and Learning at UCC (2010). Deirdre joined the Medical Education Unit in January 2008 as a lecturer at the Bon Secours Hospital, Cork and subsequently became a Senior Lecturer in Medical Education in 2011. Deirdre completed a PhD in Medical Education (UCC) in 2015.  The topic of her research was Career Choice in Medicine. Her current research interests include professional identity formation, clinical learning environments and socio-cultural theory. Deirdre is PI on a project entitled Exploring Clinical Learning Environments for Postgraduate Medical Education and Training which has been funded by the HRB, Medical Council and National Doctors Training and Planning. Deirdre has been Head of the Medical Education Unit since 2015.
