Teaching Interests

I currently coordinate GM2013 and GM2014, which are clinical 15 and 20 credit modules respectively for the 2nd year of the Graduate Entry to Medicine programme in UCC. I am Year 2 GEM Coordinator. Previously, I co-ordinated GM1010, Integrated Patient Centred Clinical Science and Practice. This is the 15 credit clinical module for first year graduate entry medical students.

I teach on modules GM1001, GM1002, GM1003, GM2001 also teach on the MX5090 and CP5200 modules, both clinically oriented modules in the Final Year of the graduate entry and direct entry medical programmes. This includes procedural skills, essential intern skills training, and emergency medical training.

I co-ordinate all Basic Life Support Teaching in the School of Medicine. (CP1080, GM1010 and MX4090.)

I teach Emergency Medicine to students in their penultimate year (MX4090).

My aim in teaching is to produce doctors who are equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to begin their medical careers. I have a particular interest in Simulation-Based Teaching and Learning, Patient Safety, Clinical Skills Teaching and Emergency Medicine.

My Masters Thesis explored Self-Directed Learning Readiness in Year One Medical Students. I am also interested in student support and in the experiences of overseas medical students.
