Siobhan is a Registered General Nurse (RGN) with a strong clinical background particularly in the areas of orthopaedic and peri-operative nursing. While undertaking a Masters programme in UCC she also gained a teaching qualification as a Registered Nurse Tutor (RNT) with An Bord Altranais (The Irish Nursing Board). As college lecturer I continuously demonstrate competence in teaching research and administrative roles. I apply innovative and appropriate teaching techniques to engender interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst undergraduate and post graduate students. I apply knowledge acquired from research to teaching to foster scholarship of my teaching. I regularly attend patient care clinical areas in my link lecture and module leader support role for undergraduate students on placements and internship. I have conducted independent research and am currently acting as co-principal investigator for Aseptic Non-touch Technique study. I am also co-member of a research team tender titled ‘The provision of Baseline Research to inform updates of NCEC National Clinical Guidelines on Healthcare Associated Infections’ which was successful.  I regularly produce and peer review papers for publication. I have presented work at national or international conferences.  Additionally I maintain links with clinical practice areas as link lecturer to orthopaedic, wound care and rehabilitation wards/units around Cork City.From an administrative perspective I lead and manage undergraduate and postgraduate modules and examination boards. I also participate regularly in and develop external networks, for example contribute to student recruitment, oversee student placements, market the institution and facilitate school Alumni work.

Patient moving and handling is an integural and legal skill requirement as students practice nursing in clinical areas. I lead a team of instructors (10 approx) in preparing all undergraduate nursing and midwifery students (200 approx every year) to partake in moving and handling of people while on their clinical placements. The team provide this as a day-long programme in 1st year followed by a 5-hour update in 3rd year of 4 and 4.5 year undergraduate programmes.
