Vesna Jaksic graduated in 2000 and obtained a MSc in structural engineering in 2001 at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Belgrade, Serbia. She obtained a MSc in environmental engineering in 2004 (“Observations and modelling of carbon dioxide and energy fluxes from an Irish grassland for a two year campaign.”) and PhD in structural dynamics in 2014 (“Bridge-vehicle interaction for structural health monitoring: potentials, applications, and limitations”) at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, UCC, Ireland. She worked in both civil engineering industry and academia sectors. She has ten years experience in Ireland and abroad in the structural engineering sector. Working as project engineer she contributed to a wide variety of structural projects (over 45) in a range of different industries. Her work in academia includes tutorials and labs for the undergraduate courses (Engineering Structures, Solid and Structural Mechanics I, II, and III) and co-supervision of internship, final year, and master students. She acted as presenter and demonstrator (exhibitor) for UCC Department of Civil Engineering in collaboration with IEI, at Discovery, Cork Science Festivals. She contributed to the creation of Hydromet Research Group and Dynamical System and Risk Laboratory at UCC. During her research carrier she produced publications, participated in conferences, and contributed to numerous projects, such as COFORD (National Council for Forest Research and Development) Programme and STRIVE (Science, Technology, Research and Innovation for the Environment) Programme 2007-2013, LEANWIND (Logistic Efficiencies and Naval Architecture for Wind Installations with Novel Developments) EU FP7 project, and various industry collaboration projects. Vesna was a senior post-doctoral researcher in MaREI Research Institute, UCC, from 2013-2017 where she was involved in MARINCOMP EU FP7 project (Marie Curie IAPP programme), FloTEC H2020 project and Transport and Urban Development COST Action TU1406. Currently, se is assistant lecturer at Cork Institute of Technology which is part of the MaREI.

She was awarded EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and Teagasc Walsh (The Irish Agriculture and Food Development Authority) Fellowship (2002 - 2004), IRCSET (Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology) PhD scholarship (2010 - 2013), and SFI (Science Foundation Ireland) Advance Award (2014-2016).
