  - This paper looks at the performance of the Irish economy as it moves from 2009 into 2010. It has been suggested by some that the economy has “turned the corner”. The analysis here looks for evidence in the published data for support of this claim. GDP, the components of GDP, retail sales, inflation, unemployment, deposits and loans and the Exchequer accounts are all considered. Little evidence is found of an economy “turning the corner”. Some commonly held beliefs about the data are also questioned.
