  - Various configurations of open space were sampled for spiders within mature Sitka spruce plantations including areas of retained original habitat, rides and road edges. Spider assemblage structure and species richness were related to the size, type and configuration of open space. Recommendations for optimising spider diversity within plantations using various configurations of open space are discussed.
