Research Interests

My main research interest is in the well-being of children and the focus of my research relates to key areas in children's' lives such as early childhood studies, child and youth participation and integration and inclusion.  I am the Irish Primary Investigator for a five year Horizon 2020 Project IMMERSE (Integration mapping of Refugee and Migrant Children in Schools in Europe) which commenced in December 2018 https://www.immerse-h2020.eu/

I have conducted a number of research projects in the area of child and youth participation and developed a number of youth-led research projects. My research work has contributed to the body of work informing the National Strategy for Children and Young People’s Participation in Decision making 2015-2020 and I has worked closely with the Citizen Participation Unit of the Department of Children and Youth Affairs since 2011 on a range of projects including national consultations with children and young people to formulate specific government policies.

Since 2021 I have been an expert reviewer for the European Commission on a number of calls including the Asylum Migration AMIF-2020-AG-CALL Integration Fund-2020-AG-CALL and the CERV-2022-Child Call.
