Paul Leahy is Science Foundation Ireland Stokes Lecturer in Wind Energy Engineering at University College Cork since 2009. He received the B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from University College Cork in 1995 and undertook his Ph.D. research on high temperature plasma diagnostics at the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy in the UK. He has carried out postdoctoral work in environmental engineering and atmospheric sciences and his current research interests include wind forecasting for wind energy generators; use of energy storage to support renewables; and autoproduction of wind energy by industrial energy users. He participates in the EU-funded stoRE project and is a member of the Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and the American Geophysical Union.
Current research interests in wind energy include new techniques for characterising the spatial and long-term temporal variability of wind resources; wind forecasting; operations of energy storage facilities in supporting renewable electricity generation; autoproduction of wind energy by industrial energy users.

I also have interests in environmental engineering, including greenhouse gas flux measurements and the impacts of extreme weather events.
