Biography
Dr. Denis Ring is a Lecturer in the Discipline of Process and Chemical Engineering at University College Cork (UCC). Denis has a Certificate in Applied Chemistry (1984) and a Diploma in Chemical Technology awarded by the Cork Institute of Technology. He graduated with a first class honours BE in Chemical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, Scotland in 2003. Denis was awarded a Postgraduate Certificate (Teaching & Learning in Higher Education) in 2007 and a Postgraduate Diploma (Teaching & Learning in Higher Education) in 2008. Denis completed his Doctorate studies at UCC in 2016 under the supervision of Dr Jorge Oliveira , Process & Chemical Engineering UCC and Dr. Abina Crean, School of Pharmacy, UCC . His PhD research titled the "Analysis and Modelling of the Influence of High Shear Wet Granulation Process Parameters on Critical Quality Attributes of an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient Using a Robust Design of Experiments" involved utilising a combination of plant data, experimentation and modelling to optimise a secondary pharmaceutical tabletting process. Denis continues his research activities, in the area of pharmaceutical production in the areas of :- Pharma 4.0, Process Optimisation, Powder Technology and Granulation.Denis is a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), founding member of the All Ireland Member Group (~1,500 chemical engineering members), a long standing member of the IChemE Professional Formation Forum (PFF) stetting standard and assessing applicants for Chartered Engineer.
