Research Profile

Simone McCaughren

Biography

Simone McCaughren joined the School of Applied Social Studies as a lecturer in 2003 where she lectures across a number of modules at both undergraduate and post graduate level. She is currently the Director of the Bachelor of Social Work programme and Deputy Director of the PhD in Social Work. Her expertise and interests include adoption policy, the law and practice of adoption, current developments and trends in both domestic and intercountry adoption. Simone's PhD, which was completed in 2010, explored, for the first time in Ireland, the real-life experiences of adoptive parents raising children in open adoptions. In addition to publications she has contributed to conferences both nationally and internationally and regularly participates in public debate regarding important issues in the field of adoption. To date Simone has undertaken a number of joint initiatives with the School of Law in UCC. She is a member of the committee for the National Adoption Service for Cork/Kerry.
