Claire Connolly

Biography

Claire Connolly is a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales, a Member of the Royal Irish Academy and a Corresponding Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.  She is a member of the Editorial Board for Cambridge Studies in Romanticism and currently serves as Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Secretary for the Royal Irish Academy.

Formerly a professor at Cardiff University, Claire Connolly has been a visiting professor in Irish Studies at Boston College (2002-3) and Concordia University, Montreal (Fall 2011). For 2018-19 she was Parnell Fellow in Irish Studies at Magdalene College Cambridge. In 2023-2024, she was Burns Visiting Scholar at Boston College.

Research Interests

Current projects include:
A book on Irish Romanticism under contract to Cambridge University Press;
A book on Irish sea crossings and colonial infrastructure from Jonathan Swift to Elizabeth Bowen.

I teach at all levels: BA, MA and PhD. My lecturing covers eighteenth- and nineteeth-century literature, Irish writing and cultural theory. These are also my research areas.
