Research Profile

Tracey Skillington

Biography

I am Director of the BA (Sociology) and Chair of the Undergraduate Committee of the Department of Sociology & Criminology. I am also a senior lecturer and currently I am researching issues of justice that arise in relation to global climate change, cosmopolitanism and transnational democracy. I have published two monographs relating to these topics and am presently finishing a third on climate trauma and crisis-led societal learning (publishing contract with Routledge).

I have a long standing interest in critical social theory, political theory, social movements research, global ethics, discourse, frame and cultural analysis. I am UCC lead in a Horizon 2020 project (JUSTNORTH, 2020-23) on democratic inclusivity and the realisation of sustainable development goals for the Arctic regions; PI on a newly funded IRC (New Foundations) project entitled 'Making Wild Lives Matter: Exploring the transformative potential of everyday encounters with wild urban nature and their contribution to eco-smart urban living’ (ECO-CONNECT), as well as a member of the UCC team leading an EU Erasmus Alliance for Innovation (chAnGE).
I am a member of the editorial board of the journal The Sociological Review as well as Sociological Research Online and a board member of  The Sociological Review Foundation, a registered charity committed to advancing public knowledge of sociology internationally.
