Research Profile

Tracey Skillington

Biography

Following the completion of an MA on European environmental politics in the Autumn of 1992, I began my career as a social researcher in the Centre for European Social Research. Here I worked on several international projects covering themes like sustainable development, bioethics, future cities, social justice and citizenship. While still working at CESR, I started my PhD on visual culture and the contemporary political spectacle under the supervision of Piet Strydom in UCC. In 2009, I was appointed as a full time lecturer in Sociology (above the bar in 2013). I am currently researching issues of justice that arise in relation to climate change and transnational memory projects. I have a long standing interest in critical discourse analysis, narrative research and critical social theory.

Research Interests

Research interests include critical theory, human rights, global justice, border practices, sociology of the body, European identity, cosmopolitanism, collective memory, models of democracy.
