Research Profile

Aisling O'Driscoll

Biography

Aisling O’ Driscoll is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT), University College Cork (UCC), Ireland, which she joined in 2017. She previously worked as a lecturer at the Department of Computer Science at Cork Institute of Technology, Ireland (2012-2017). She obtained her Ph.D. at Nimbus Centre for Embedded Systems Research, Cork Institute of Technology in 2014. She received her MEng by Research and BSc in Software Development and Computer Networking in 2006 and 2004 respectively.

Dr O’ Driscoll is a Funded Investigator in the SFI CONNECT Centre for Future Networks & Telecommunication as well as
Lero, the Irish Software Research Centre. She is the CONNECT Leader for the SFI Blended Autonomous Vehicle (BAV) spoke programme, a large multi-centre research programme and leads the Connected Autonomous Vehicles (CAV) working group within CONNECT, a strategic research theme within the centre.
Dr O’ Driscoll served on the committee for the national CAV Ireland consortia (led by Jaguar Land Rover) and is a Director at the Technology Industry Alliance (TIA, formerly IT@Cork) a leading not-for-profit independent business organisation, representing over 300 companies in the ICT sector in the south west region of Ireland. She serves on the Editorial Board of Elsevier Ad Hoc Networks and also serves on the organising and technical program committees of many conferences. She further serves as a technical reviewer for various journals and conferences.

Research Interests

Dr O' Driscoll's current research interests are in communication protocols and network management for wireless networks with applications domains including vehicular networks and IoT. She also has expertise in parallelised algorithm design and software development for bioinformatics applications.

Dr O’ Driscoll’s research interests focus on communication protocol and system design of wireless and mobile cooperative and connected systems, especially those exhibiting high topology dynamics and increased autonomy, such as in transport and industrial settings.  She is particular interested in techniques and methods to enhance the reliability of such systems as they scale and exhibit increased autonomy. Much of her work seeks to devise cooperative solutions using decentralized and distributed approaches. Former research sought to apply such distributed approaches to designing scalable algorithms and software for bioinformatics applications
